The Festival Team are all volunteers doing what we love most - promoting the arts - whether in Bedfordshire or Jersey! With the recession reducing expectation for corporate sponsorship, below is an idea to appeal to 'locals' in Bedfordshire and Jersey and, we hope, to all size pockets.
Discover some of the voluntary contribution to the arts that exists within the Festival Team: BEDFORD JERSEY ARTS FESTIVAL is entirely voluntarily organised, many professional performers asking low or no fees to support such a special 9 week unique international community arts festival in Bedfordshire.
Perhaps you will be tempted to contribute as little as £25 to enable most tickets to be just £5 and help build an antidote to Bedfordshire recession-hit summertime! It has to be worthwhile - and a super contribution to community life.
Profiles . . .
The quarterly art'icle magazine Bedford UK has, for 5 years, promoted the arts with up to 60 pages of voluntary local writers' profiles, features and reviews printed free by sponsor Autoglass, distributed free by Bedfordshire Libraries and Bedford Arts Forum. All design, production and income is undertaken by the volunteer editor, Sandra Dudley, a new editor beginning shortly. Sandra has become a voluntary publicist/publisher in Bedford over 7 years working with MUSIC AT ST ANDREW'S, ST ANDREW'S NEARLY NEW FASHION SHOW & EXHIBITION and BEDFORD MESSIAH CHOIR and from the magazine work came the creation and organisation of BEDFRINGE 2007 and a Team who are taking this into future years. Similarly the BEDFORD JERSEY ARTS FESTIVAL evolved from voluntary magazine arts contacts with The Harbour Gallery, Jersey.
www.articlemagazinebedford.co.uk, designed by local arts volunteer, Manoj Gupta, also Chair of Fusion Choir in Bedford with his wife and a team who bring best musical experience to children of Queen's Park, Bedford and beyond. By day, Manoj is an IT Consultant and MD of his company PC Kwikfix in Bedford. It is the intention of Sandra Dudley to develop the website from late 2009 into a county arts website to complement the many local arts organisations' websites - voluntary art'icle reviewers of the past please note!
www.bedfordartsforum.org.uk is a voluntary arts umbrella organisation, originally a Bedford Borough Council initiative to give local arts practitioners a hub. Visual artists have enjoyed enormous benefits of an annual 8 month art exhibition at Bromham Mill and many very enjoyable events under Norma Wall's direction. Energetic fundraising has replaced earlier grants and has completed the funding required to publish art'icle magazine and two websites. The generous sponsorship of Autoglass, PC Kwikfix and Art Centre & Gallery, Bedford is gratefully appreciated.
www.mnlg.com Retired art teacher, Pat Robson and her team also contribute much voluntary promotion of Jersey arts as Director of The Harbour Gallery and Creative Design Studios. To be found at the quaint but lively harbour of St Aubin, situated in the South West corner of the Bay of St Helier, in days gone by it was the main harbour to Jersey housing merchants and privateers. The largest exhibiting gallery in the Channel Island, exhibiting the work of over 100 artists and craftworkers, events include 12 major annual exhibitions, children's and adult's workshops, special events, talks and demonstrations - and is an examination centre for A level Art Textiles. The Creative Design studios consist of The Jersey Soap Shop, Beads &Crafts, Jersey Silver, Pari Designs, Phoenix Art and Design, Harbour Framing, Harbour Music, Knit Wits and Sew & Sew and Husqvarna Viking. There are also 4 artist studios which can be hired on short or long stays.
If you are feeling hungry visit the THE GALLERY café - you will not be disappointed! (Totally confirmed by Sandra Dudley!)
